Piano Service Experience

I have over twenty years experience tuning and repairing all major brands of pianos. I began my career tuning, repairing, and rebuilding pianos at the Steinway franchise of Boston. I worked on all models of Steinways, and on numerous other brands of pianos. Later in my career, I worked for both Yamaha and Kawai dealerships, tuning new pianos in private homes.

Formal Training

I was trained at the premier piano tuning school in the nation, North Bennet School of Boston. My instruction included piano tuning, repair, action regulation, and rebuilding. As a result of this comprehensive training, I am usually able to find the most efficient and cost-effective way to bring out the best performance in your instrument.

Certification

I hold the certification of Registered Piano Technician (RPT) from the Piano Technicians Guild. This appellation can be earned only by passing a series of rigorous examinations on the maintenance, repair, and tuning of pianos. Because the field of piano technology is not government regulated, the Piano Technicians Guild has established these examinations and this certification in order to insure quality service to the public. Fewer than 2,500 piano technicians in the world have earned this title.

Reviews

I have received 63 “A” reviews at Angi, the new name for Angie’s List, with no reviews lower than an “A”.  Angi is an on-line source for quality service providers, and it no longer requires a membership fee.  You can read “Quality Piano Tuning” reviews by clicking HERE.

Here is one example:

Ned Klein did a masterful job. My piano had not been tuned in 3-4 years and had just completed an arduous cross-country move from Virginia to Southern California. First, Ned tuned the piano and brought the sound up to a warm tone. I had him come back a couple weeks later to literally take the piano apart, sand off the worn layers of felt on the keys and adjust all the mechanisms. The result is a glorious, rich sound that turns my living room into a virtual concert hall. An added plus: Ned is a colorful raconteur and music historian who entertains you with great stories of famous people and their pianos. He is even publishing a book about the characters he has met.
